Overcoming Temptation

Let’s face it; everyone has his Achilles heel or his Delilah of weakness that can strip him of his spiritual strength. Satan attacks us at our weakest place. It is a maxim in physics that no chain is stronger that its weakest link. Jesus, after spending forty days in fasting, was tempted by the devil to turn the stones into bread. The devil attacked Him at His weakest point.

One of the hardest words for us to pronounce is the word No. Learn to say no, said Charles Spurgeon, it will be of more use to you than to be able to read Latin. In business there is the saying, Take care of the pennies; the dollars will take care of themselves. If we are careful in life with our integrity in the little temptations, the great or crisis temptations will find us with strength we didn’t realize we had.

Remember, one of the best defenses is a good offense. Have this mind in you which was in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2.5. The city fathers of a small town decided to dig a canal. After it was dug and the water began to flow, fungoid weeds began to grow, and it got so bad the boats could not even travel. They tried everything: poison, acid, cutting, and digging. Finally, one came up with the idea of planting willow trees along the banks. That did it! They choked the weeds out and took all the nourishment. The spiritual application is found in Romans 12.21, Be not overcome by evil. but overcome evil with good.
